Decarlos Brown's Mental Illness Isn't A 'Win' For My Community

'My favorite merciless Black nationalist commentator,' as I call YouTuber ‘Prof Black Truth,' was customarily unsparing in his analysis of suspected politics following the August 22nd, 2025 North Carolina metro train murder of Iryna Zarutska.

His take was that Republican budget cuts to mental health care contributed to Brown being at large, despite having been involuntarily committed by his own parents for attacking them. That element of this case hit home because I have a friend whose mentally ill son has assaulted her, her ex-husband and makes death threats.

'Prof Black Truth' also cited conservative outrage over this murder, with their particular emphasis on the ethnicities of victimizer and victim. I've also noticed the same selective racial dynamic. So much so that federal charges were filed in against Brown while the Trump administration has taken no such action, nor public comments for Black murder victims during his second term.

Decara Thompson was sexually assaulted and murdered by an illegal alien in Maryland on August 23rd, 2025, ironically one day after Iryna Zarutska's stabbing death.

While there was a ripple of online right-wing outrage over the Thompson case, despite its connection to deportation, President Trump's signature homeland security issue, there was no accompanying conservative outrage nor official action by the administration, not even after it was revealed that the suspect wasn't arrested by US Park Police during a stop despite being here illegally.

I fully understand 'Prof Black Truth', other independents and even community leftist allegations that conservatives elevate White female victims of non -White suspects above all others. Partisans on the right may disagree but we don't see examples to the contrary.

I'm also fully cognizant that Decarlos Brown's possible determination of being unfit to stand trial is no 'win' for my community. Like Decara Thompson, Iryna Zarutska didn't deserve what happened to her. Both crimes were domestic acts of war and in my estimation, should earn both perpetrators federal death sentences.

I can't cherry pick which murder victims 'matter' more than others. Every unjustified homicide is warfare waged against every community in this country.
