I wish Ford hadn't succumbed to the pressure of turning their vehicles into rolling home theatres, but understand how competitive pressures (and legislation…) work. And in that light, the Explorer is still a very nice vehicle.
I have a feeling that the customers at which Mitsubishi aims this vehicle will be quite satisfied with its combination of electrification, features, comfort and efficiency.
But for that 80 grand for the Ranger version, which does appear to be competitive with other top line compact pickups, you're still getting a heckuva truck.
Anyway, iSeeCars' rankings show there are a few good options for budget-minded new car buyers, especially if they're willing to consider becoming budget-minded used car buyers instead.
