Educators Are Protectors, Too!

One of society's most reliable protective resources, surprisingly, aren't only military war fighters, intelligence officers nor members of law enforcement. Not even private protectors and citizens on patrol exclusively hold this distinction.

No, one of society's most consistent lifesavers are educators. As demonstrated by this heroic Oklahoma principal, public and private educators, along with support staff, routinely shield students with their bodies or subdue armed assailants. Such courage is taken for granted among US Secret.Service details protecting presidents, other government bodyguards or executive protective agents assigned to corporate figures and celebrities.

Teachers, professors, and by extension, coaches, paraprofessionals, food service workers, bus drivers, bus aides and others are an unexpected line of defense on campuses.

They aren't so out of nationalism or gladiatorial pride.

They do it because they love their students. That's something we in the security watcher game should pay closer attention to. Few have formal backgrounds or training in close protection or more broadly, security. Nonetheless, they closely protect young people and coworkers time after time. Love is the most powerful protective force.

As an advocate for a mobilized public, I've known for a very long time that educators are protectors, too.

Let's support them with defensive tools and onsite protection professionals so they don't have to keep saving the day empty-handed-or by themselves.
