Incident Shows Need To Be 'Secure Samaritans'

Watching this Good Samaritan get nearly beaten to death speaks volumes. An age of misdirected aggression demands wedding best intentions with best practices. Simply put, we need to be 'Secure Samaritans.'

When I do street outreach, my heart is open along with my eyes. While conversing, I assess folks, too. You never know whether someone is having a bad day, bad lifetime or simply is a bad person. Toss in mental illness and intoxication and situations can go off the rails in an instant.

My suggestion is never offer assistance without a plan in mind to escape conflict. Believe it or not, good Samaritans have been murdered simply for lending a helping hand:

I don't believe in lending a helping hand while empty-handed. Meaning minus means for self-defense. Skeptics say this is why people should avoid helping strangers. I'd rather our good Samaritans are secure ones.

These days they need to be.
