I've noticed one of many disturbing trends among criminals enabled by a certain ideology.
Shoplifting, once a quiet game of retail cat and mouse is now a loud, high risk security scenario in too many cases. Clerks are being pepper sprayed by assailants as well as beaten, stabbed or shot.
On another social media platform, I tagged a state elected official I know and offered this suggestion: proposed legislation to make it a felony to use pepper spray in the commission of a theft or other crime.
I've talked to retail workers who were pepper sprayed by violent shoplifters. These crimes should be considered armed robberies as surely as ones where firearms are the weapon of choice. As one former retail clerk who was bear maced said, 'My face felt like it was on fire!'
It should be a felony to pepper spray retail workers in Louisiana--and nationally.
