Only Two Presidents

No matter how the current war with Iran ends, future American Presidents will have to confront radical Islam again;

In the history of the United States, only two Presidents have stepped up to put radical Islam in its place. Of course, we know who one of the Presidents is, President Donald J. Trump, the President who refused to keep kicking the problematic Islamist can down the road. The second President was none of the last seven Presidents to have served.

“From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli”

The first President to address and kick the butt of Islam was President Thomas Jefferson. In the early 19th century, Islamic Barbary Pirates were attacking American shipping that was trying to transit to the Mediterranean Sea. The Barbary Pirates were capturing ships, making crew members slaves and demanding ransom and ongoing tributes to use the open seas. From 1801 to 1805 the United States Navy, along with the United States Marines, fought the pirates and ultimately established free transit for American ships.

It was the Barbary Pirates War that gave us a portion of the first line of the Marine Hymn: “From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.”

No matter how the current war with Iran ends, future American Presidents will have to confront radical Islam again. From 1095 to 1291, European Christians confronted Islam with eight different Crusades. In the 1492 Spain ended the Muslim occupation with the capture of Granada. In the 1800s, America and the world had to deal with the Islamic Barbary Pirates and since 1979, America, Israel, and the world have been dealing with radical Islam in Iran. Radical Islam is a virus that can’t be killed, but a much closer eye needs to pay attention in order to keep radical Islam in check.

Only two American Presidents have properly confronted Islam, but they certainly won’t be the last.
