While thousands of Canadians, including Brian and Judi at Canada Free Press are struggling their way through a record-breaking Winter, facing the risk of hypothermia, we discovered that Canada’s gadabout PM Mark Carney’s Brookfield is one of the top investors in Superior Plus, the holding company of Superior Propane LP, the company that takes customer’s money—but never delivers the promised fuel.
Superior Plus is a publicly traded company (TSX: SPB) and does not have a single individual or corporate owner. Instead, it is owned by a diverse group of institutional and individual shareholders. (Google AI)
"As of early 2026, the primary owners are large investment firms and institutional holders:
"The company is led by Allan MacDonald, who serves as the President and CEO. Superior Plus operates several divisions, including Superior Propane in Canada and Certarus, a leading low-carbon energy distribution firm.
'Based on available information, Mark Carney does not have a direct personal investment in Superior Propane (Superior Plus Corp), but his former employer, Brookfield Asset Management, has made significant strategic investments in the company.
"Here are the key details regarding the connection:
"Superior Plus (parent company of Superior Propane) has continued to expand its North American operations with backing from investors like Brookfield.
"While Mark Carney is not reported to have a direct personal investment in Superior Propane, his financial interests are linked through his former employer, Brookfield Asset Management.

Back to the nightmare for folk across North America left out in the cold by Superior Propane:

When CFP paid $500 in full for a necessary refill on Jan. 8, we were told our propane would be delivered on or before Jan. 17.
The refill never came, and all efforts to reach anyone at Superior to help by phone failed abysmally. All inquiries in our many desperate phone calls, found us being left on hold for many hours, as we were being shunted by a live agent to any department they said would be the ones we should talk to, always ended to be left on hold again, and then being informed by an automated voice, “Sorry. No message can be left here. before the call was abruptly terminated.
On Jan. 29, worried about the upcoming forecasted weekend blizzard, and the possibility of losing our power, we called Superior again—in desperation. We knew that our propane-fuelled fireplace would be our sole source of heat in a potential power outage. The woman who answered the phone promised that someone from the Client Care Department would get back to us as soon as possible.
‘Slow Forward to today’:This morning we received a strange telephone call from a man from Superior, who identified himself—at our request—as ‘Nizar’.
Nizar asked us to relate to him the experiences we have had to date with Superior Propane.
We told him that on Friday before the storm, Brian and a friend had gone to Yarmouth, bought a 100 lb. empty propane tank at Canadian Tire, then went to a propane distributer to have the tank filled, drove home and dragged the tank through thigh-high snow to the side of the house.
With the help of a gas fitter, we got the fireplace operating on Saturday a day before the storm hit.
We told Nizar about how we were now gratefully using our own propane tank, and asked him when Superior would return the money we paid them.
He told us we would have to terminate our account, before they would come for their tank, telling us when we asked that they would come “some time within the next 10 weeks,” subject to the availability of a truck
Then and only then, they would begin processing the refund and ultimately mail us a check.
Because of a Facebook page filled by hundreds of complaints from folks left out in the cold by Superior Propane, the prime minister of this country and the premier of Nova Scotia must know what’s going on.
What have they been doing when so many folk have been cold and hungry, living without vital propane refills?
PM Carney, along with his loyal ‘conservative’ sidekick Ontario Premier Doug Ford, are still keeping busy throwing brickbats at U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
Yet Carney claimed only yesterday that he had reached the president by phone and had a “pleasant” conversation with him.
And Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, with whom Premier Ford kicked off his anti-America activism during the 2025 Liberal Election campaign?
Only yesterday he was ever so proudly boasting that Nova Scotia has a proud history as “Canada’s Capital of Defence.”
Here’s hoping they don’t run it like Superior Propane!
The ongoing theatrical fight of these politicians against their next door neighbor, is far more frightening than ridiculous, mainly because as it is going on, average Canadians are out in the cold, hungry and holding out hope that they will not freeze to death by the politicians who abandoned them out there.
