When socialist billionaire George Soros, through his Open Society Foundation and multiple political action groups, began funding local political campaigns for District Attorney (DA) elections in major Democrat strongholds like Los Angeles, New York, and Minneapolis, we should have anticipated what the long-term consequences would be if a Soros-backed candidate was elected, but I don’t think anyone could have imagined the extent of lawlessness this would create.

The fact that so many of these Soros-backed DAs are not willing to bring criminal charges for the destruction of property or attacks on local law enforcement has sent the message that groups like Antifa, Democracy First, and even sitting members of Congress can pretty much do whatever they want under the guise of “a protest” knowing that even if they are arrested, they will not be charged.

Public displays of mob violence and chaos serve a useful purpose in the eyes of The Left. First, it shows that The Left is not afraid to go against basic rules of civilized society. Second, it shows their enemies (i.e., people the Left despise like President Trump, Christians, Jews, and anyone else who opposed the Left’s Marxist and pro-communist ideology) that they are serious about their socio-political beliefs and goals. Third, it gives the Left one more platform for spewing their lies with vile signs and screams of injustice, police brutality, immigrant kidnapping, and racism. Fourth, the Left hopes these displays will discourage and frighten supporters of President Trump and the MAGA movement

But something else that, in my opinion, is every bit as serious and problematic as mob violence is the number of cities, counties, and states that have declared themselves “sanctuary” jurisdictions. As FOX News contributor and legal scholar Mark Levin pointed out in his July 19 television broadcast, these declarations of “sanctuary” by cities, counties, and states is really a form of nullification (i.e., rejection) of the U.S. Constitution.

Nullification is a legal theory that a state can refuse to comply with federal laws and regulations if they believe they are unconstitutional. This theory has its basis in an extreme application of states rights. This doctrine contributed to the start of the American Civil War, which was a war between the states who wanted slavery and those who had abolished slavery. However, this doctrine of nullification has never been held up in any U.S. federal court.

Despite this fact, certain American states, counties, and cities continue to declare themselves sanctuary jurisdictions. I’m sure CFP readers understand why this is now problematic for the U.S. federal government and why sanctuary cities have now descended into lawlessness.

According to the website Center for Immigration Studies, these cities, counties, and states have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, and/or other practices that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from ICE, either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from compiling with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, denying ICE access to interview incarcerated aliens, or otherwise impeding communications or information exchanges between local law enforcement personnel and federal immigration officers.

This alone goes against the U.S. Constitution, which clearly indicates which government enforcement powers are delegated to the federal government and which ones to the individual states. U.S. immigration laws and enforcement procedures have always been managed by the federal government. The fact that the Biden Administration did nothing to discourage cities and states from adopting the “sanctuary” policies has contributed to the blatant displays of violence and unrest now going on in America’s streets. While the current Trump Administration is trying to do something about this, it is becoming more difficult as governors, mayors, sitting district court judges, and even members of the U.S. Congress continue to support this unconstitutional notion of “sanctuary” from federal law enforcement. We now have candidates like Zohran Mamdani in New York City and Omar Fateh in Minneapolis openly campaigning on Marxist socialist and pro-communist platforms.

Currently, there are 12 U.S. states that have proclaimed themselves to be sanctuary states. The list is even longer for cities. As more sanctuary jurisdictions are added to this list, the obvious questions are these: (1) How does allowing sanctuary jurisdictions to continue affect our constitutional republican form of government? (2) How does the U.S. federal government reclaim control of these sanctuary cities, counties, and states in a legal and civil manner?

The answers to these two questions are not as easy or simple as you may think. However, to partially answer the first question, just look around you. Our rule of law has broken down or is being misused, particularly by sanctuary city mayors and sanctuary state governors for the express purpose of breaking down the federal government’s power and control over immigration enforcement. If the United States is to remain a sovereign country and a world leader, it is imperative that our federal government regain control of the powers specifically delegated to it by the U.S. Constitution.

As for answering the second question I posed above, I believe the Trump Administration is trying to regain control over all those duties/tasks designated to the federal government and making some significant progress, but the Left will continue to fight them in every way possible.

The only thing that seems to get mayors and governors attention is the Trump Administration not just threatening but actually cutting off certain types of federal funding until these sanctuary jurisdictions begin complying with federal law.

In the meantime, citizens who love America need to remain vigilant and watchful as more candidates announce they are running for various positions in the 2026 elections. The United States cannot afford to elect any more members to the U.S. Congress with Leftist radical views like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Hank Johnson (D-GA), and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX).

And don’t forget about local elections. New Yorkers cannot afford to fall for Mamdani’s communist agenda and bright smile. Do your research into the various local candidates because it truly matters who becomes mayor of your city, sits on your county board of supervisors, or is elected to your state supreme court. Unless American citizens start voting for candidates who clearly support law enforcement, Judeo-Christian values, and seek to bring honesty and integrity back to public office, our wonderful republic will be in danger of collapse just like the Roman Empire.
