The Virginia election regarding restructuring their electoral districts map is one of the strongest arguments against direct democracy in recent history. It also argues strongly against vote-by-mail schemes. If the results survive a court challenge, one of the most partisan redistrictings ever will be implemented.
While US Presidential elections are subject to decision by the Electoral College which is structured to balance the effect on elections of urban concentrations to ensure that rural areas are fairly represented, there is no such protection within states. The recent Virginia election is a classic example of what is known as the "tyranny of the majority".
This long-recognized problem exists where a concentrated population such as a city can dominate elections and end up dictating to a large distributed population of voters with vastly different concerns and issues. This problem is one of the major reasons our founders chose a representative form of government over a direct democracy.
If the election results stand, the populous eastern cities of Virginia will rule over the western three-quarters of the state. The predominately Republican western counties will find themselves subject to Democrat representatives who do not share their values and who have little or no understanding of the issues and concerns of those western counties. A population of nearly half the total population of Virginia will be represented by alien interests while their own voices are silenced.
A fair apportionment of representatives would reflect the different parties within the state, and would provide balance between the concerns of the western rural counties and the few urban eastern counties. The direct democracy of the state election wipes out any fair balance and ensures only the loudest voice dominates. Hence the tyranny of the majority.
There is another concern, though, involved in the results—that of election integrity. Early investigations by competent investigators have brought forth considerable evidence of election manipulations sufficient to alter the results in favor of an approval of the redistricting plan.
It appears that large ballot dumps of tens of thousands of ballots all in favor of redistricting may have occurred in some eastern counties. Most of these "dumps" are of mail in ballots which are recognized to be easily manipulated by fraud in the form of dead voters, illegal voters, fictional voters, ballot harvesting, paid voters, and even manufactured voters.
Instances of negative vote counts, where the reported totals actually drop at times were observed for several counties throughout the counting period, and electronic records of totals appear to have been altered at times. In short, it appears that all the forms of election fraud I have been writing about in my articles over the last few years, and perhaps some new ones, have been employed to sway the election results.
It will be imperative that an independent court ordered audit of the results be conducted before the results are certified. Such an audit will be expensive and time consuming, but will be essential not only for Virginia, but also for the rest of the country.
It is my belief that such an audit would demonstrate just how vulnerable our "most secure ever" election systems actually are to fraud and manipulation, and how untrustworthy those systems are for determining the will of the people. I would hope that such an audit would prove me wrong, but evidence from my own investigations as well as of many others argues against that outcome.
On one side we have people who seek fair and honest elections that will accurately gage the will of the citizens so that our government will act to represent the best interests of the populace. On the other side, are those who seek to win at any cost, who will use any means fair or foul to gain and retain power to impose their will through government exercise of force, regardless of the will of the people. Allied with this side are other influences that wish to weaken or even destroy our country to further their own interests.
If we wish to remain a free and independent Nation with justice and liberty for all, we must employ the most fair and honest election systems we know, We must be vigilant to find and defeat all attempts to subvert our elections. Our current systems fail almost every test. Having officials falsely tell us not to worry because we have the "most safe and secure election systems ever" when we know otherwise merely destroys our faith in our government and our elections. We know what must be done. We lack only the will.
Americans have a long-standing history of demanding fair play in our sports and public affairs. Instances of injustice engender anger and outrage and action to correct such errors. Fair elections are as much a civil right as education, employment, or any other opportunity. We don't tolerate cheating in our sports, so why should we tolerate it in our elections?
Only by hiding the cheating can cheating succeed. A thorough audit can expose cheating. Is that why so many officials are opposed to audits of our elections? Do they fear the outrage of exposure? Are they afraid they would have to get real jobs if our elections were honest? It is up to us to demand honest elections and hold our officials accountable. It is time to be heard, not to be herded.
