This 'Hippie' Stuff Will Land You In Prison Or the Grave

I've noticed, with some surprise, that the White House Correspondents Dinner shooter's ethnicity hasn't been played up by those on either side of the aisle trafficking in such descriptions. If the suspect were a dark-skinned, obviously Black man like myself, the 'Black crime' industry on the right would have a field day smearing us en masse as assassins. Not to be outdone, the 'Blameless Black' politburo absolving violent traitors would kick into overdrive, too.

While his lineage has yet to be confirmed to me as of this posting, it's safe to say he appears to be a lighter-skinned Black man of possible biracial origin.
'Why does this matter, Cap?' huff some conservatives who declare themselves to be colorblind.

It matters because if he is a member of my community, he's the first attempted presidential assassin from our ranks in America's 250-year history.

That's a sobering, significant milestone. As contentious as our time here has been, none of us have gone the lethal route of John Wilkes Booth or Lee Harvey Oswald, murderers of Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy, respectively. Nor has a Black assailant done a 'John Hinkley, Jr.', and seriously wounded a president, namely Ronald Reagan.

While Black threat makers have been questioned and arrested in some cases, this category of infamy hasn't been associated with us until now.
It's yet another instance where a community member sank to klan tactics. I see this mindset usually in illiterate mass shooters and carjackers waging war against other Black people.

Had this highly literate suspect bothered to deeply read our history he'd have noticed it's been marred by assassination attempts upon, and assassinations of, our greatest figures, from Medgar Evers to Malcolm X to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose mother was also murdered-while inside a church no less.

Lesser known civil rights and Black Power activists also suffered the same fate or brushes with death.

I read his manifesto. He seems to identify as a leftist 'patriot' who felt compelled to try one-man regime change due to differences with the second Trump administration. At this early juncture I haven't seen content arguing he possesses a uniquely Black vantage point. He seems possessed by White progressive philosophy and frenzy federal deportation, sexual orientation and foreign policies send them into.

I wish he'd had blunt Brothers like me to talk to. Somebody needed to tell him that this 'hippie' stuff will get you imprisoned or killed by law enforcement if you let it overtake your reason. Young, and not-so-young, White members of the left feel they're in a death match with conservatives. Black people with sense all backgrounds have largely opted out of stalking ICE agents or confronting federal immigration officers making arrests.

Ditto with attempting presidential assassination, until now.

Somebody needed to tell this young man that following 'hippie' stuff will land you in prison or dead during an officer-involved shooting. Let them obsess over what the 47th president is doing.

While we must stay abreast of current affairs, we still have a community to secure and stabilize. Fighting the battles of an outside ideology doesn't help accomplish these two goals.
