While we must stay abreast of current affairs, we still have a community to secure and stabilize. Fighting the battles of an outside ideology doesn't help accomplish these two goals;
I've noticed, with some surprise, that the White House Correspondents Dinner shooter's ethnicity hasn't been played up by those on either side of the aisle trafficking in such descriptions. If the suspect were a dark-skinned, obviously Black man like myself, the 'Black crime' industry on the right would have a field day smearing us en masse as assassins. Not to be outdone, the 'Blameless Black' politburo absolving violent traitors would kick into overdrive, too.
